How honest can you be?
When I coach founders during an accelerator program, one of the key things I teach is how to be honest and confident as a founder. There’s no space for imposter syndrome in the work I do with founders.
Serial entrepreneurs know something incredibly important about this work. They know that their business model is a hot mess. They know there is a LOT they don’t know about how their startup will function in the future. They know this and can honestly assess how much they know – through testing and direct contact with customers – and how much they don’t know.
So when I coach first-time founders, I help them reach a level of confidence about what they know and don’t know as well. You can’t feel like an imposter if you own what you know and can be honest about what you don’t know.
Startups are messy and full of unknowns and risks. The more honest you can be about everything you don’t know.. but will figure out… the more confident you can be with everything you’ve learned and built so far.
Each day, I publish an idea I'm working on, highlights from a founder coaching session, or other tidbits from my work with founders, investors, corporate partners, and accelerators. Check out the Hustle+Fire blog for more.
